grey days: fall 101 in miami

In Miami, it’s no secret that fall is a state of mind, not a season. As the fashion world shifts from summer to fall, we have to find our own adaptation of FW collections and incorporate fall-ish styles into our daily look. For me, this is best done with a slightly darker color palette, some rich garnet hues, and of course my favorite thing to wear ever….a great pair of ankle boots. Side note: this hat has helped me realize that yes, I am most definitely a hat person. And this dress is one to scoop up in every color, it’s great for work or the weekend. I can’t say enough about the bag either (currently on sale for $20!)–I carry my MacBook in it during the week, and swap out work wares for sunscreen and beach essentials on the weekend. Gotta love wardrobe pieces that really go the distance!

I must admit–I get a little jealous when I see pictures in my Instagram feed where people are wearing adorable coats and cozy and strategic layers, tossing up a big pile of autumn leaves, and sipping hot cups of tea outdoors. Here, I’d be passed out from heat exhaustion in each of those scenarios. Plus there are no autumn leaves here, everything seems to be bright and green on South Beach.

Hello, fall. Good to see you again, or whatever.

Fall in Warm Climates 101:

1. Ankle boots are your friend. They are so easy to wear out with friends and also to work. Choose a pair with a chunky heel for added comfort and a casual yet put together look. You can pair with dresses, shorts, skinny jeans, skirts–you name it! A great style would be in these, these, or funky fringe ones like these.

2. An Aztec printed bag in trans-seasonal. Even more so in versatile black and white. An ideal bag can go from work the the weekend, and everywhere in between. I’ve already praised this one, but there are many options out there that can take you from Indian Summer through to the real thing next year. This bag is also great, and very affordable.

3. Change your color scheme. Bright summer hues like yellow and hot pink take a backseat to bolder hues like maroon, grey, black (or course), olive, and rust. Look for separates in these shades that are easy to mix and match. This tie neck blouse is a great piece, and you can’t go wrong with a lightweight olive sweater.
